The temperature controlled bimetallic design detects the difference in temperature between steam and condensate at the same pressure.
The bimetal stack relaxes when cooled a certain amount below saturated temperature releasing condensate.
Unfortunately, this design will not follow the saturated steam curve because bimetal elements have a linear characteristic to them.
It also has a tendancy to plug due to oxide deposits, so it comes with a scale removal tool standard.
