Scope of Work:

Velan Steam Traps, through their local representative, James D. Acers Company, Inc., analyzed the condition of this refinery’s 3,000 steam traps and made recommendations for improvements/replacements. Recommended upgrades to the steam traps were executed in 4 months. This included the replacement of failed steam traps, as well as leak repairs and several other steam/condensate system improvements.

 

Upgrade Projects:

  • Survey analysis of 3,000 steam traps
  • Replacement of failed steam traps with new traps
  • Repair of steam leaks
  • Recovery of condensate through increased collection

 

Time of Service:

Work started in 1998 and has become a bi-annual project.

  • Murphy Oil has realized significant energy savings.
  • Murphy Oil has seen their annual failure rate of the steam trap population drop from 21% in 1998 to 3.4% in 2006.
  • Murphy Oil has realized reduced back pressures in their condensate system.
